Ann Karrick is a marketing, media, and public relations consultant integrating traditional and online/social methods. She is in a unique position, with experience on “both sides” of the media and public relations business. Karrick has worked with all types of companies from blue chip to start-ups, and technology to social services.

 

Karrick’s background includes marketing with IBM, AT&T, and Golf Digest as well as public relations & advertising agency work. Her agency work includes those specializing in online and social media, sports marketing, and high tech clients. She also works in television and radio broadcasting as a talk show host & news anchor/reporter.

Karrick’s variety of work and multiple career paths give her a broad, encompassing view of business, a true asset to her clients. Living near New York City, in Paris, and in Miami, adds to Karrick’s understanding of different cultures and people, and how to reach target and niche markets.

 

Business Overview

 

Karrick started her business career running her own custom clothing business, specializing in women’s bathing suits! She continued this business through high school and college.

 

After completing her education, with a degree in Computational Sciences (Math, Statistics, Computer Science), she had several contract programming jobs with IBM in the greater New York area. She moved on to work for a computer consulting company that specialized in database management, before joining IBM full time in the marketing office in Miami.

 

As an IBM Marketing Representative and Account Manager, Karrick worked with businesses in International Banking, Insurance, Computer Services, Accounting and Manufacturing. She was selected to go to IBM Financial Management executive training and also named Marketing Representative of the Quarter. Karrick’s experience with Business Recovery Services proved invaluable to her clients after Hurricane Andrew blew through Miami; her banking clients were able to continue operations at IBM’s “hot sites” until their own buildings were re-opened.

 

After six years with IBM in Miami, Karrick was offered a position with AT&T in the northeast. While working as an International Account Consultant, Karrick was rated as Highly Qualified in Project Management by the AT&T assessment center. She also decided to branch out and expand her skill set.

 

Karrick left AT&T and began what she calls her “life experience MBA.” Using her elite sports background and corporate marketing experience, Karrick worked with several public relations and sports marketing agencies, including Advantage International (now part of Octagon) which was highly involved with the Olympics. She also did marketing work for Golf Digest and pro-bono work for the Connecticut Speedskating Association. Later she would help Nutmeg Curling Club with public relations, including the club’s appearance on the Travel Channel show Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. Yes, Karrick also was in the holiday special show with Bourdain.

 

It was during this “life experience MBA” that Karrick took classes in radio and television broadcasting, and began working on news and talk shows. While pursuing a broadcasting career, she continued her consulting work with direct clients and agencies. One of those agencies has specialized in online, digital, and social media since 2006. Karrick’s clients include specialty areas of technology, science, retail, memorial planning, food/beverage, and beauty/health.

 

With experience on both sides of media relations, as well as extensive work with online and social media, Karrick has become a requested speaker on combining traditional and online/social methods for public relations.

 

Karrick continues to work with clients, in addition to her career in radio and television broadcasting.
